School Finance Template (formerly Budget) Boot Camp

TASA’s School Finance Template Boot Camp (formerly known as Budget Boot Camp), redesigned in 2020 and renamed last year, has long been considered a valuable asset to administrators. Recent changes to school finance formulas, including implementation of the new $100,000 homestead exemption and additional tax compression have made the revenue estimation process more of a challenge than ever. This hands-on session will break down the steps to template completion one-by-one, and staff will be available to work with you individually and answer questions. Learn more.

This event should not be confused with the TASA/TASB/TASBO Budget Cohort for Texas District Leaders event that will be held at the Austin Convention Center Monday, January 29, 11:45 a.m. – 1 p.m. That event is not a Midwinter Conference event; it will appear on the “Related Events” calendar once that is posted.

TASA Mentor Training

Texas school districts continue to see turnover in the superintendent job, meaning many first-time district leaders are stepping up to lead in a new role. New superintendents need a well-qualified, successful superintendent to serve as mentor during their first year of service. TASA depends on current and retired superintendents who meet certain minimum requirements to serve in that role. If you want to invest in the success of new leaders by being a mentor, you must attend TASA’s Superintendent Mentor Training, to be held 3-5 p.m., Sunday, January 28, in conjunction with the 2024 TASA Midwinter Conference in Austin. A sought-after speaker at conferences, organizations, schools and communities around the globe, Angela Maiers’ singular focus is on setting in motion a change of behaviors and perspectives that will draw out the potential in every person and result in a positive impact on the world. She describes her transformative message and methods as common sense put into common practice, though deeply grounded in science. An educator for 30 years, Angela’s work in 78,000 classrooms across 100 countries has rallied more than a million children who have banded together to launch 170 social enterprises and pass 17 laws. In 2011, she gave a TEDTalk on the power of two simple words: You Matter, and the video went viral. What resulted was the start of a movement which became the global nonprofit organization, Choose2Matter. As its founder, Angela’s mission is to help individuals recognize their value and potential contribution to change both their own lives and the world.
