TABSE Texas Educational Policy Institute (TEPI)

The Texas Alliance of Black School Educators (TABSE) will hold its annual Texas Education Policy Institute (TEPI) 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Saturday, January 25, prior to the TASA Midwinter Conference in Austin. TEPI allows education leaders and elected officials to work together to analyze, strengthen, and translate policy into practice to ensure equitable academic outcomes for all Texas students. This event is for educators who are interested in learning about education policy and practice and want to provide input on legislative policy. Cost is $75 for the 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. event. Superintendent Mentor Training

TASA is proud to launch our reimagined mentorship program for first-time superintendents in Texas in 2019-20 and will begin training new mentors in conjunction with the 2020 TASA Midwinter Conference. Our “Inspiring Mentors: Superintendent Mentor Training” session will focus on the skills and superintendent competencies needed for mentors to build strong relationships, connect to First-Time Superintendents Academy session content, and provide coaching to new mentees. Budget Boot Camp

Texas is now in its first year of implementing House Bill 3, which contained the most significant changes to the state’s funding structure for public schools in decades. TASA’s Budget Boot Camp has long been considered a valuable asset to administrators, but staying on top of recent changes make attending this year’s Boot Camp more important than ever. TASA is proud to offer a redesigned Budget Boot Camp in conjunction with the TASA Midwinter Conference to help school leaders with this transition. Learn more. Leadership Wellness Preconference Session

TASA is pleased to offer “Leadership Wellness for Superintendents,” a preconference session focused on professional ethics as well as personal and financial wellness. In addition to two presentations on ethics — one from the teacher perspective and one from the system perspective — that will discuss developing an ethical decision-making framework, the session will include a panel discussion on personal wellness in the context of the superintendency featuring several familiar Texas superintendents and a session on financial wellness conducted by experts. Aspiring Superintendents Academy Kickoff (& Welcome Reception)

TASA’s Aspiring Superintendents Academy, held in conjunction with the TASA Midwinter Conference, has been redesigned for 2020 for school leaders on a career pathway to the superintendency. Kicking off on Sunday of the conference, the academy meets again Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday, for a total of 10 hours of professional learning. TASA Midwinter Conference registration is required, along with an additional fee for the academy. Conference registrants and exhibitors are invited to the Midwinter Conference Welcome Reception in the sixth floor ballroom of the Hilton Austin Hotel – just across from the Austin Convention Center.

Before you head over, stop by the conference registration desk in the Atrium on Level 1 of the Austin Convention Center to pick up your badge and drink tickets for the reception. (On-site registration closes at 6 p.m. Sunday.)

He launched the organization in 2000 at a Bronx public high school where he taught history for five years. TASA, in cooperation Moak, Casey & Associates, hosts two Accountability Forum Seminars each school year exclusively for districts that subscribe to TASA’s Accountability Forum, a service that helps school leaders stay current with the latest developments in state assessment and accountability. Seminars are offered at no extra cost to subscribing districts (up to three attendees per district). Learn more.

Budget Cohort for Texas School District Leaders, Session 2

Session 2 of the Budget Cohort for Texas District Leaders (current cohort is full; registration is closed) will be held following the TASA Midwinter Conference. The focus of this session will be on collaboration among departments, tying the budget to the strategic plan,monitoring the budget and understanding the components of the state funding formula.
